Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Driving up and down the California coast its incredible to see how much surfing goes on here. The georgous coastline with soft, sandy beaches endless waves and abundant sunshine makes California one of the great surfing spots in the world.

If you’re visiting San Diego and want to learn to surf, or if you already know how to surf and want to rent a board while you’re on vacation, give the San Diego Surfing Academy a try.

Located on South Carlsbad State Beach, San Diego Surfing Academy offers lessons, surf camps, surf trips and rentals. The lessons run from $60/person for a 2 hour group lesson of 3 people to $55/hour for private lessons. The instructors are friendly and encouraging and will teach you the basics of surfing before you get into the surf and try catching a few waves. Depending on your aptitude, you might even be able to stand up during your first lesson, even if its only for a second or two.

If you don’t want a lesson but would like to rent a surfboard then SDSA is a great place to rent because they are located right on the beach. Its just a short walk from the SDSA to the beach, so you don’t have to worry about transporting a board and wetsuit from the rental location to the beach, or using your rental time in transit. Board rentals are $10/hour and wetsuits are $5/hour.

SDSA does take same day lessons, but its best to call ahead and book. They can be reached at 1.800.447-SURF (7873) and 760.230.1474 (office) and on the web at www.surfingacademy.com
